In the ISO TC215 November plenary the national members decided to cancel the small amendments to ContSys and instead await feedback from the “systematic review” of the standard. Areas anticipated for review include:

  • Functional and structural roles drawing closely on EN ISO 21298 (functional and structural roles)
  • Representation of temporal concepts, such as currently, in the past, in the future drawing on EN ISO 12381 (Explicit time-related expressions for healthcare-specific problems)
  • Make the links into social care clearer
  • Incorporate a concept model of the Electronic Health Record aligned with EN ISO 13606-1 (Electronic health record communication — Part 1: Reference model)
  • Possibility of developing a formal ontology for ContSys linking into an upper level ontology such as BFO or DOLCE
  • Review and align where possible to ISO/IEC 30182:2017 Smart city concept model — Guidance for establishing a model for data interoperability
  • Learn from the use of ContSys in EN ISO 17269 The International Patient Summary
  • Link to HL7 FHIR Resources introducing appropriate synonyms where necessary
